This week at Respite Cafe we’ll have a rooibos cake with strawberry buttercream. For those that don’t know, rooibos is an amazing tea from South Africa (you can read more about it here). Available starting Wednesday May 9 by 11am.

The Saturday Market at Rebus Works

This Saturday, May 5th, is the first Saturday Market of the season at Rebus Works! The market starts at 9am and runs till 1pm. Also at the market this week will be Muddy Dog, Double T Farm, Local Seafood, Elemental Chocolate, and other great local vendors.

Our menu:

Blue corn tea cakes with a strawberry-rhubarb glaze, made with blue corn meal from Muddy Dog.
Ganache and cacao caramel tarts
Savory handpies with roast beets, sauteed beet greens, zucchini, spring onions, and ugly white sweet potatoes. (v)
Bagels and bialys. (v)

Farm to Fork 2012

Tickets for Farm to Fork are now on sale! This year’s event takes place on May 20 at the W.C. Breeze Family Farm Extension and Research Center. Proceeds from Farm to Fork support the new farmer training programs at CEFS and the Breeze Farm. We are pleased to announce we have been paired with Parker Farm and Vineyards and will be using their produce and eggs.

This week at Respite, we’re bring a classic back: chocolate cake made with Big Operator from Big Boss paired with a coffee ganache featuring Carrboro Coffee’s Brasil Santa Amalia. Death by chocolate, with a slight caffeine buzz.

IndieGoGo Party at Escazu!

We are having a party on Thursday 4/19 from 7-9pm at Escazu Artisan Chocolate to celebrate our IndieGoGo campaign, which ends the next day on Friday 4/20. We’ll have tasty mini cups of cake for you (preferably in exchange for a donation to our IndieGoGo campaign). Come out and have some fun! And make sure to purchase some of the best chocolate in the country while you’re at it.

This week at Respite we have an amazing cake, one that we are both amazed by. We went strawberry picking on Monday so we will have the first of the season strawberry cake with a pear-basil buttercream (made with pears and basil from my father’s garden in Raleigh).

Cucurucu! A Benefit for Wake The Farm

Crumb is pleased to be taking part in Cucurucu! on April 28 from 11am – 6 pm at the AIA Center for Architecture + Design Corner of Peace and Wilmington Streets in downtown Raleigh. Come out and support Wake the Farm! There will be lots of great food, music, and art from many local artists including Ray Goodman, AH Peele, Matt McConnell and many more local artists. Come out, buy some tasty treats for your mouth, body, and eyes while supporting a great cause!

We will be selling:

This week’s cake at Respite Cafe is a slightly twisted take on something traditional, a toasted coconut cake. For those coconut fans, and even those non-coconut fans, this is great cake to pair with a nice pourover or double shot.
