Escazu + Crumb + Bourbon, how could that not be good?

September 1st, 2010

escazu1

Back in April, we were approached on Twitter by a customer who wanted a special cake for the Kentucky Derby. Camille’s only requirement was that the cake must contain chocolate, ginger, lime, and bourbon.  We made Camille one hell of a cake and she was a very happy camper. (You can see a picture of her half eaten cake on our Facebook page under Photos by Others.) We made this cake (without limes) a little while later as a personal cake for those awesome people at Escazu and now we’re going to make the cake for you!. The cake will be a chocolate stout cake made with Escazu’s 65% chocolate and Fullsteam’s Hogwash (because it sounds like a good excuse for us to drink a pint), fresh candied ginger, and vanilla infused bourbon. The cake will be available by the slice on Thursday 9/2 at noon.

New Music Raleigh’s Second Season

August 30th, 2010

nmr.logo

New Music Raleigh is kicking off their second season with a concert on Sunday September 12 at Murphy School Theater (224 Polk St.) in Raleigh. Crumb is very pleased to be supporting these adventurous badass musicians.  Many of you made it out to their last concert which featured a burning hot performance of Steve Reich’s Different Trains. The new season starts with works by Paul Lansky, John Luther Adams, and Raleigh’s own Cameron Britt. Tickets are $10 (cash only) at the door. Crumb will be selling tasty treats before the show and during intermission and Joe Van Gogh will be serving coffee.

From the press release: “Every artist is influenced by their surroundings, whether it be the vast Alaskan tundra or the busiest street corner in Tokyo. Composer John Luther Adams recently said, “My music is going inexorably from being about place to becoming place.” NMR’s September 12 show features selected works that directly compare space and place in music, journeying from a feeling of openness to the influence of urban, electrified places.”

This week’s cake at Escazu

August 24th, 2010

After all the glowing reviews of last week’s chocolate Fullsteam ghost chili madness at Escazu, some of you are wondering what we are doing this week.  A few weeks ago, Carrie’s daughter turned eleven and requested this cake for her birthday: coffee pound cake, raspberries, and chocolate ganache. That’s what we’re making this week, with one huge upgrade, Escazu’s 65% chocolate.  It was a damn fine cake a few weeks ago and it’ll be an even better cake this week. Did we mention the coffee in the pound cake comes from Joe Van Gogh? The cake will be available Thursday August 26 at noon.

Crumb + Escazu

August 17th, 2010

escazu

Crumb is very please to announce a new experiment with our friends at Escazu Artisan Chocolates. Starting on Thursday, Crumb will be offering slices of cake for sale at Escazu, made with Escazu’s amazing chocolate (by far the best chocolate in North Carolina and probably on the eastern seaboard).

Cake will be available at noon on Thursday and when it’s gone, it’s gone for another week.  This week’s cake is for our friends Chris, Brooks, and Sean in honor of the opening of Fullsteam. Hogwash hickory smoked porter chocolate cake, cherries, and chocolate buttercream. We’ll probably figure out a way to work some ghost chilis into the mix too.

near-final

Crumb is very pleased to be making cakes for the pre-opening party at Fullsteam on Friday August 13. In case you haven’t had a chance to try Fullsteam yet, it is some banging beer, unique and tasty! We are making two awesome cakes for the party using beer from Fullsteam:

1] Hogwash hickory smoked porter chocolate cake with cherries and ghost chile ganache

2] Summer Basil farmhouse ale pound cake with tomato curd made from tomatoes from Coon Rock Farm, the source of the basil used in this incredibly refreshing beer.

The party starts at 4pm. Details are here. The tavern will be open to the public at 6:14pm, but there probably isn’t going to be any cake left by then.
