Vote for us in the Indy’s 2010 Best of the Triangle

February 26th, 2010

Attention Crumbots!

That time of year is upon us again, that time when you can vote for the Independent’s Best of the Triangle. You can vote for Crumb in the best bakery, best desserts, and best pie categories (and any other category you want to, although we don’t fit into any of the rest too well, aside from maybe best strip club). Don’t forget to vote for our friends at Escazu in the chocolate confection category.

Show your love for Crumb and vote and get your friends to vote and your family including that aunt no one talks to to vote.

Voting takes place here. Apparently you have to vote for at least 25 of the 219 categories for your vote to count. The system will not tell you if you have voted for less than 25 so keep an eye out (there is a counter in the bottom right hand corner to help you keep track).

(and if you still have a minute, leave us a review on Yelp.)

Go Ask Mom

February 3rd, 2010

Crumb got a great shout out from one of our most vocal supporters today on WRAL’s Go Ask Mom Blog.

An excerpt:

Crumb’s concoctions will make you swoon. I’m not talking your run of the mill devil’s food cake here. I mean really, here’s just an example of the delectable cakes Crumb is cranking out: the Little Lebowski Urban Achiever (gotta love the name!) – chocolate cake filled with a vodka/ coffee ganache and topped with buttercream (made with…vodka and coffee liqueur!). While Crumb has mastered the basics (after all a simple yellow cake with chocolate frosting is one of my favorites), the duo of Carrie and David create some ingenious pairings that will trick your mind and tempt your tongue.

Read the rest of awesomeness here.

We owe Ilina something tasty for that one. Read her blog, Dirt and Noise, and follow her on Twitter because she is bad ass and because we told you to.

Mentioned in the News & Observer

January 27th, 2010

Crumb got a mention in the News & Observer (our local paper):

Crumb

Owner: Carrie Gephart and David Menestres

Location: Only online and phone orders

Contact: 413-8134, info@justcrumb.com

Web site: justcrumb.com/

Cost: $4-$8 per cupcake

Valentine’s flavors: Miso Horny is chocolate stout cake, miso caramel filling and ganache and caramel topping.

Cupcakes are a small part of the baking business that Gephart formed with musician Menestres in October. Gephart worked at Raleigh’s Hayes Barton Cafe & Dessertery for years. The pair also makes cakes, pies, tarts and cookies. They focused on cupcakes for the Shotbox espresso shop that was open during the holiday market at Designbox in downtown Raleigh. Their cupcakes often involve alcohol, from the frosting to the cake, because, they say, “Who doesn’t love alcohol?”

Tasting Notes: We loved the names of the cupcakes, from one with jalapeno-tinged frosting called Slow Burn to a White Russian cupcake called Little Lebowski Urban Achievers. The unique flavor additions of these cupcakes, whether tequila or jalapeno, always seem to hit you on the end of your palate. If you like that sensation, you will love these cupcakes.

Shotbox Late Night Saturday 12/19

December 19th, 2009

For tonight’s late night hours at ShotBox Ty asked for something laden with alcohol. We respond with the following cupped cake: Chocolate cake filled with chocolate Bailey’s buttercream topped with a vodka and coffee liqueur chocolate ganache buttercream. There is so much alcohol in this cake that you will need a cup of the best single origin coffee or a double shot of espresso to sober up enough for you to drive home.  This is the most alcohol we’ve put into anything yet.

If you want to experience the fun, Shotbox will be open from 10pm-2am. Supplies are limited. Enjoy the performance while it lasts.

Shotbox is located at 323 W. Martin Street in downtown Raleigh, NC.
