An Apology from Crumb

June 1st, 2010

Regarding our slogan, let us begin by apologizing to you, Diana, and everyone else we have offended.  This was never our intention. The tagline was meant as a joke and nothing more. We never meant to hurt anyone. The tagline is no longer in use and the tweets you found offensive have been removed.

Today, even before all of this happened, was a really bad day for both of us. The stress of opening a small business and dealing with all the details has been getting to us. None of this is fair to you, but it’s the truth and we owe you that.

Please forgive our insensitivity. We are truly sorry.

Sincerely,
Carrie and David

Sunday at Coon Rock Farm

May 31st, 2010

We went to Coon Rock Farm’s annual memorial day party on Sunday. We had a great time, got to meet some interesting people, and we had amazing food and drinks. Those mojitos were the best we’ve ever had.  The rope swing into the Eno was a blast. Everyone should come next year.

Farm to Fork wrap up

May 24th, 2010

Farm to Fork is pretty much the coolest thing ever. How cool? The only phrase that comes close to describing the awesomeness is: fucking badass! How badass? Like Shaft and Superfly rolled into one. Those who were there know what were talking about. Those that weren’t should make plans now to attend next year.

We finally got to try some Fullsteam. The Pasternaak Parsnip Ale and Carver’s Sweet Potato Ale were both excellent. The strawberry Sangria from 18 Seaboard was very refreshing after cutting cakes for two and a half hours. The strawberry gazpacho with cucumber and basil from Herons at the Umstead was a great twist on a classic dish. Our favorite food was from Fired Flour, tasty and unique pizza, cooked on the spot, with ingredients such as fig preserves, goat cheese, mustard, onion marmalade, nuts, and so much more (not all together of course). Keep an eye out for these guys.  The list of delicious food could just keep going on and on and on and on and on…….

Crumb’s menu for Farm to Fork

May 21st, 2010

Crumb is very pleased to be taking part in this year’s Farm to Fork celebration of local foods and local farms.  For those going, this is what you are getting from us. For those not going, this is what you are missing out on.

We are doing three different types of cake:

1] An untitled cake featuring chocolate from Escazu Artisan Chocolate (Raleigh, NC), beer from Big Boss (Raleigh, NC), and goat cheese and yogurt from Celebrity Dairy (Siler City, NC)

2] Strawberry cake with strawberry buttercream featuring strawberries from Barefoot Farms (Meadow, NC)

3] Sweet Potato cake with brown sugar/bourbon buttercream featuring Beauregard Sweet Potatoes from L & G Farms (Meadow, NC)

All cakes use flour from Lindley Mills (Graham, NC), cream and buttermilk from Maple View Farm (Hillsborough, NC), and eggs from Latta’s Egg Ranch (Hillsborough, NC)

Thanks to Escazu, Big Boss, and Celebrity Dairy for donating ingredients.

As a side note, this is the last weekend to buy strawberries from Barefoot farms at the Raleigh Farmer’s Market. Go and get some, they are the perfect strawberry: red to the core, tart, and sweet without being sugary.

Pictures will be posted on Monday.
